viking imaginings

24/9.2011 - viking memories

there are times when you come upon a scene that transports you, just for a moment, back in time. i imagine that this scene wasn't all that different in viking times...cows grazing on the shore and a long viking warship at anchor in the lake. a crisp autumn day, birdsong in the air and a light breeze of the sort that the vikings undoubtedly enjoyed. i didn't see any actual vikings, but i suppose they were at the nearby kro, having lunch and a few beers...just like in the old days.

it kind of makes me want to pillage something...

Too soon to tell if Donovan McNabb is a Viking pillager.

My ancestors would have been on a ship like that perhaps and now my relatives and I feel the same connection I do when I see something like that.

It's a beautiful photo and it's the potential it has to transport you to times so long ago and all that the imagination conjures to go with that thought that makes it so very very appealing.

I love how a photo can do that. I was in Kalona this past weekend and I time warped myself quite a few times. P.S. There were quilts there you would have died for.
