the alien rowing team

the alien trooper from series 13 seems to have replicated himself around here. i was rather disappointed at first (i'd much rather have multiple unicorns), but then i decided that a whole group of them could easily take the canoe out for a spin, like they're a rowing team. our weather has been absolutely horrible this weekend - rain, sleet and hurricane force gales, even as far inland as we are. but for a few glorious minutes late in the afternoon, the sun came out and the aliens went for a little row.

husband pointed out that they were going to row in circles. he should know, he's an old rower from way back. but i liked how their little ray guns looked all lined up on the one side of the boat too much to switch one paddle to the other side. pretty cool that they're all lefties, eh?

the theme for this year's creagive (the local art group i'm part of) spring exhibition is "reflections," so i find myself drawn to water. with all of the rain we've had of late, there's a lot of puddles around, so i have no shortage of reflections to explore. i have to find shallow puddles, tho', because that little canoe doesn't float all that well.

can LEGO be art?
and if so, when?

the best things about this weekend

the one being confirmed looked a bit like a mermaid
even her dress was mermaid-y
which is entirely appropriate in the land of the little mermaid
beautiful table settings
a view like this from the party location
proud father giving a funny, yet touching speech
these two sisters of the konfirmand
children playing well together across all ages
this cake
getting lots of good prezzies
kick-ass eyelashes
doodling on the piano in the waning hour of the party
hearing hilarious tales of life at sea
and did i mention the view?
fresh homemade strawberry lemonade in the sun
enjoyed together with grilled apple & thyme sausages
getting these flower beds totally tidied up
hope your weekend was glorious too!

tagged for a meme

barb tagged me (she actually did it yesterday, i'm a little slow on the uptake this week, sorry!) for a meme that's a bit different than the usual meme.  what you do it open whatever book is closest to you (not necessarily your favorite book, but really the one within reach) to page 56 and type out the 5th sentence, plus the next 2-5 sentences thereafter.

here's mine:

the next thing serif knew, he had a bride. more than a year later, he was still surprised how happy he was with this sweet young presence in his life. especially since she had just confided that she was pregnant.

(kinda fitting in light of my week, weird how that works!)

i'm reading people of the book by geraldine brooks. what i found out today is that although it's a novel, the sarajevo haggadah actually exists. fascinating. i'll share more as i go along, as i've just started it.

thanks for the fun, barb, have a lovely weekend!

i'll tag andi (because i'm sure she has lots of books nearby) and anyone else who would like to try it.

i voted today!

after a horrible panic due to the fact that i hadn't yet received my absentee ballot (and i had been patiently waiting, thinking it would come), i got in touch with the chicago election commission and found out they hadn't received my request! arrgh! the good news was, it wasn't too late and because they have great service, i actually was able to request and receive a ballot via email, all in one day! i've filled it out and sent it, so it's on its way! i would have been devastated after all of this, not to be able to vote.

today's election quote translated from danish :  "sarah palin has had the same effect on the campaign as  halloween candy. at first, voters got a proper sugar high and afterwards a bellyache."

and looking ahead to 2012, i bring you today's tangobaby campaign button:

and because i adore the campaign button maker :
hope you're having a lovely weekend.

a new obsession!

took this picture this afternoon of my flea market purchase the other day. the zinc watering can, which looks marvelous, leaked like a sieve, so i planted a hydrangea in it.

then, i went here and i lomo-ized it. i think i'm in love. and you can dump them straight into your flickr!

how totally cool is that?!?!?!
