secret 9 - me and dessert

of late, i've been inventing all sorts of variations on the dessert above. it's a kind of trifle or parfait or something like that...creamy, fruity, meringuey. decadent. i've made it both with a bit of sweetened condensed milk in the cream for extra richness and without. i've made it with peaches, cherries (from our own cherry tree, combined with a dash of vanilla vodka), strawberries (from our own garden). i've used bits of a sponge cake in between the layers and i've used crunched up meringues. it's pretty much yummy no matter what you do. or so they always say.

because although i love to make desserts, i can really take them or leave them as far as eating them goes. and that's it, that's secret #9--love to make desserts, don't so much like eating them (tho' you wouldn't know that to look at me).

* * *

and yes, i admit this secret is a bit lame, but it's because i'm in a mild depression over managing to leave the house without the camera today (it's wednesday as i write, at least for a few more minutes). and then i kept stalking seeing a swedish guy and his aggressively perfect family in tivoli who was taking shots in perfect light from odd angles with a leica M8, which only further depressed me.

i'll try to be back on form tomorrow...in the meantime, enjoy the pretty pictures of the dessert. :-)

I don't think this is a lame secret, at all! I hate that some people assume that because a person enjoys baking, they have a huge sweet tooth and enjoy eating what they make. Believe me, I absolutely LOVE baking, but as for eating what I make- I could take it or leave it and be happy either way. Happy Wednesday!

Must have that dessert! Do I have to eat dinner first?

I love this secret actually. I could take or leave desserts but people act as though I am crazy. Just had my bday cake (which looked a lot like parfait up top) and have to say I feel a bit icky now!

This is a good secret : )

I cannot cook/bake/do anything more complex than boxed macaroni and cheese (and I often ruin that ... don't ask), so the almost artistic beauty of your delicious-looking dessert also struck me.

I knew we'd fit well together. I don't particularly care to cook/bake/make much of anything, but I like to eat. And as far as I'm concerned it doesn't have to be very pretty, just yummy looking...like your parfait. Send it on over...

I've found that I can bake a whole bunch on Sunday and then take it to work on Monday and it will disappear. It's like magic! And much like a shampoo's "rinse, lather, repeat" this, too, can be done all over again!

That really does look delicious. Vodka can go in there you say? Yumm!

Hellloooo, you should totally be counting this! I would, but maybe that's just from desperation to build my list. I think you're 'eton mess' (which is I think what Pom's would call it) is beautiful.

that is exactly my kind of dessert! lots of cream, fresh fruit (preferably berries or cherries), chewy meringue (the sponge i can do with or without). i gotta have some now!

Oh, yum, looks heavenly.

but you totally need one of those desserts to make you feel better! looks like it'll help, you'll forget all about the Leica M8 (which, by the way, looks interesting. I need to investigate that site further)

I've made meringues topped with whipped cream and loads of blueberries recently and they were heavenly... simple but delicious... I have no problems with eating desserts

Um, if you are not eating yours, can I have it? No shame here...

Oh this is a fab secret not at all lame. I'm not bothered about making OR eating desert really. If someone puts it in front of me I will eat it, but I'm not fussed.

Oh, that Swedish family would have given me the grumps for sure. How did you forget your camera? Oh no. I thought you had to glued to your face like me...not 'very' convenient but avoids those 'damn I wish I had my camera' moments?

I also really enjoy baking. When I bake, I take it somewhere else for others to enjoy. The smiles on others' faces as they eat what I baked, are priceless to me! This was definitely NOT a lame secret! Love the pictures!
