currently snowing

i love that nordic blue winter light. it's been snowing all day and is expected to continue into tomorrow. it was raining when we went to bed, so there's a layer of ice under the snow on all the trees and it's heavy! glad i don't have to drive anywhere today!

daily delights - february 8

 it snowed all day today and that fluffy white covering on the world makes winter a whole lot more delightful. 

a white christmas?

it snowed heavily all day today. and the wind was blowing. it was a real blizzard. but it's stopped now and it's warming up fast. they say by midnight it'll be 6°C, so it will soon be gone and christmas probably won't be so white after all. but for today, it was.

it made it a perfect day to stay inside, do the last baking and making of christmas treats and sewing up the last gifts. we even pulled ourselves together and put up the tree. all while watching season 1 of buffy the vampire slayer on netflix. even tho' life in high school on top of a hellmouth isn't really all that christmasy, there is something deep and existential about it. i love it.

all of the preparations are done and my turkey is tucked into its brine - we'll head off tomorrow morning to spend christmas eve with family (they think christmas eve is actual christmas here and open all their gifts and eat all the food one day early). we're taking a few gifts along, but not all of them, as we'll come home already for actual christmas (hmm, maybe that early celebration isn't so bad after all). i hope we have time to take a trip down to møn's klint - that strikes me as the ideal thing to do on christmas.

scenes from the first snow

i spent a lot of time outside today, despite the snow. looking for our escape artist bunny, who broke out of his cage in the night. but this time has disappeared. i still have hope he'll be back out there in the barn, driving the other bunnies mad tomorrow morning when i go out. but i'll admit i'm worried. i wonder how much he knows about the big wide world. a neighbor came looking for his foal, which had also disappeared. perhaps they've run off together...young lop-eared bunny and a young quarter horse foal - off on adventures in the snow. there must be a story in that....

snowstorm leads to thoughts of spring

i actually took this shot from safely INSIDE the house, tho' i did have to have the window open wide. but only briefly.  anyway, thanks to this, i stayed inside all day, drinking tea and pursuing all sorts of goodness on flickr. i love to make mosaics and see what it is that's catching my eye. as you can see, i'm a little bit in need of fresh, bright spring colors:

i also spent quite some time trying to use this tutorial (recommended by spud), to crochet a fancy granny square. my failure to do so is not a reflection of the tutorial. nor is it from a lack of really good yarn that is totally suitable for said granny squares:

but, tomorrow is another day and i shall eventually succeed. or else move on to something else that i actually am able to do. like spend hours and hours looking at beautiful things on flickr.
