can't put down this book

gratuitous lily shot taken in my garden yesterday.
it doesn't really have anything to do with what i've written below.

i'm reading american wife by curtis sittenfeld. and i am absolutely loving it. so until it's done, i find myself wanting to read and not write. and it's a little bit weird because the book admits it's inspired by laura bush and i'd never have imagined i'd love reading something in which characters scream dubya, karl rove and the evil wench barbara bush. but it's really, really good. i can't put it down. so now, i'm going back to it. don't worry. i'm a fast reader, so i'll be back soon.

I'd classify it as a beach read that makes you wonder if you hadn't known some things about Laura. What's true (a lot) and where does invention come in? I'm not sure. But the American Husband is just as despicable as his role model. Could she really love him?

Sittenfeld sometimes leaves me chilly, but I thought she nailed it for much of this book (I found a few parts too much and near the end, it dragged). I even hated Bush slightly less when I was done, which was something, I think.

This is the perfect book to take to Norfolk this weekend!

Have you finished it yet?
