30 days of lists: day 29

i had this ready and couldn't get into blogger for hours due to some strange "infinite loop error" message. very strange. but here it is. better late than never and only one to go. went to a late open evening tonight, but only bought some small gifts for sabin's december christmas countdown calendar. i really do want to go with either handmade or flea market items this year and not succumb to the usual gift panic. happily, my budget will hold me to that.

oh, and these aren't minifigs, but some ordinary christmas-themed lego from a few years ago. i love that little reindeer.

a busy weekend awaits. we're moving sabin's horse home tomorrow and i'm frantically finishing up things for the christmas market on sunday, but first, a good night's sleep.

happy weekend one and all!

what i've learned this week

20/1.2012 - genius lego business card

~ lego has the coolest business cards in the world.  name on the front, email & phone # on the back.

~ it's very in amongst the toddler set to go to great lengths to expose said toddlers to chicken pox. parents get together with a child that has the pox, then they proceed to make the children drink from the same cup as the infected child, suck on used suckers and generally embrace and kiss one another in hopes that their child too will become infected. i can tell you a lot has changed in ten years.

~ a lot of good things can happen if you just dare. (including meetings already next friday!! [insert happy dance here])

~ if you ask for feedback on something, you'd better be able to take it.

~ if you wear something fabulous, you will feel fabulous. (i didn't so much learn this as remember it.)

happy weekend, one and all.

happy weekend!

i got unexpected flowers today from an old friend. i gave her a reference earlier this week and she got the job and i got the flowers. how cool is that?  what a way to start the weekend!

it will soon be time for G&Ts - happy weekend one and all!

weekend = time to play!

what's better to play with than replicas of old-fashioned tin toys? seen at den gamle by in århus. and yes, i did get one, it's that fish in the middle of the bottom picture. and it's so cool. it has a little fish inside of it. they really knew how to make toys in the olden days...

hope you have a lovely weekend, one and all...

keep calm and carry on

i like this very right now take on the classic WWII phrase - keep calm and carry on - that someone took the time and spraypaint to put on the side of an S-train. i imagine them hopping a fence late at night, sneaking in to do their art furtively in the darkness. that driven to spread their message. i try to imagine what they thought when they chose those particular words. because it's a little counterintuitive coming from a graffiti artist....or perhaps not, because it seems that they do indeed carry on, despite the rather ephemeral nature of their work. and so it seemed like a good message to have in mind going into the weekend.

spend your weekend wisely, whatever you do.

who is gonna miss me?

there was much whining and pouting last evening when i informed the child that i would be away at blog camp 1.5 this weekend. which means that her father is taking her to riding lessons on saturday and sunday. she informed me that far is utterly unable to saddle the horse and he has to enlist the help of the "horse girls" (hestepige, clearly one of those few words that's better in danish) who are standing around, waiting for the chance to help with such things. this is apparently quite personally embarrassing for sabin, who is still too short to saddle lizette, the horse she rides now on saturdays, herself. you can see lizette is quite a tall danish warmblood. i think she's lovely, but it's true that sabin wouldn't be able to saddle her all by herself. so she needs far. i hope he doesn't embarrass her.

it is nice that she'll miss me, even if it's just for my ability to saddle a horse.

another one who will miss me is lila. our cat. she's my buddy and every night when i come to bed, she jumps up and has 15 minutes of very close, in my face love. then she jumps back down on the floor and goes to sleep. she's been even more affectionate since our trip to dublin, when she was locked outside and cared for by the neighbors. when we came back, rather than seeing us as villians, she saw us as her kind liberators and loved us even more. lila showed up at our house last year and sometime last summer, i started feeding her and named her lila. actually, she told me herself that was her name. she's a super nice cat, tho' her fur gets nasty in the spring when she's shedding.  and she likes to bring mice in the house and set them free.

this one went down a mouse-sized hole in the wall behind the t.v., where some pipes for the radiators stick up, and wasn't seen for 6-7 hours, when it reappeared and much panic and gathering of a pink butterfly net ensued and it was removed from the house. because lila sees it as her role to bring them in, present them to us and then wander off.

i can assure you that this one was just playing dead - look at it. the drama. it deserves an oscar. seconds later, it hopped up and scampered off behind the bottle box. and you can see lila has already lost interest in it, so she's not even properly appreciating his little mouse oscar performance. i'm sure they'll deal with at least one of these this weekend while i'm away.  it's our own fault, we leave the doors open all day on these warm days, even if it's raining.

and although i hope husband misses me a little bit - we might briefly meet at starbucks the airport when he comes in from newark and i head off to heathrow - i'm sure they'll get along just fine.

ready for the weekend

husband comes home today! we're ready to see him and hang out with him again, for sure! i've volunteered to pick him up at the airport (and no, it's not ONLY because i want a starbucks grande venti latte).  i really can't wait to hear his stories of places with names like belo horizonte. doesn't a place with a name like that sound just wonderful? (more wonderful than clayton, NC, in any case, which is also where he was.)

i'm also looking forward to seeing the D60 and what pictures he managed to take with it. i don't really know what it thought of being sent out into the world without me and i'm a little sad that it's been to brazil and i have not, but i know it was safe in husband's capable hands. i told him he had to take a few hotel mirror self-portraits, but i'm not sure he did that (for some strange reason, he doesn't always do what i say). it's just that the D60 will expect it.

husband said the other day that we should go to the states sometime this year.

my response, "oh yeah, i just got a sale email from KLM and there are super cheap tix to joburg, like under 4000DKK or something like that."

husband said, "that's not the states."

oops.

watching all of the leaders arrive at the G20 summit in london it struck me that they're there to talk stimulating the world economy and about the environment and such, but they all pulled up in giant, bulky, beefed up armored gas guzzling big-ass cars and vans and SUVs.  is that really any better than the message sent by those assholes from the carmakers who showed up for their first meetings in their private jets? i also thought that instead of "growth" in the subtitle of the G20 conference, it maybe should have said "sustainability." because we can't sustain the kind of growth we saw. we've only got the one planet, you see.

this is a screenshot of my flicker view stats. check out the spike when my kitchen was on apartment therapy! i normally have a rather steady amount of  views (between 200-400), but that day it shot clear up to 1854. it helped that the moo people tweeted another of my photos that day. i guess i don't really care about any of this one way or another, but i thought it was pretty funny visually.

this is the weekend where we attend the wedding party for husband's sister. i'm so excited to see what they thinks of their atelierBB goodies. the party will be at the wonderful gamla kassen in landskrona.  these shots are from another party we attended there early last summer.

note, i've been on a roll of late and put up a bunch of single entries over on balderdash, be sure to go check them out. they're autobiographical, but there's a couple of pretty funny ones.

they promise sunshine and up to 15 degrees this weekend, so you won't see much of me here. i hope the weather is fine where you are and your weekend is filled with laughter!
