and the sun breaks through

it's been a stormy week weatherwise and although i often feel that the weather reflects my mood and pause to wonder if i'm causing it, this week that hasn't been the case. i have definitely felt the sun breaking through a cloud that's hung over my head for the better part of the past few months. one that i strangely didn't really realize was there until it dissipated. how is it that we're so inside of ourselves that we can't see what's really going on?

i feel so happy that the mild depression i've apparently been in is lifting. and it's lifting just in time for blog camp berlin. and i feel truly excited and happy to be leaving tomorrow morning on the train. i've got energy again and am ready for loads of laughter and talking and catching up and getting to know a couple of new people in person. tho' thanks to the blogosphere, they already all feel like old friends.

i don't know what adventures lie ahead the next few days, but i'm looking very much forward to them, whatever they are...

happy weekend one and all...may the sun break through wherever you are.

and we're back

new york city burning
after a long summer hiatus, kristina and i are back on across ø/öresund, sharing creativity across the sound separating denmark and sweden. we'll be posting highlights from the first roll from our summer film swap. i exposed a roll of expired slide film (oops, those pretenses again) in south dakota (or should i say sabin took most of the photos one evening when we had a bonfire) and then sent the roll to kristina in new york city. then kristina got it cross processed and here is the first of the results.

while of course the entire roll doesn't turn out as well as you might hope, there are some very cool and unexpected effects. kristina's camera rolled the film differently, so not only are they double exposures, but also half frames on top of my originals. i think it's especially effective on this shot of city streets.

be sure to stop by across ø/öresund in the next few days to see more. and do check out the interviews we did of one another. kristina's interview of me and mine of her.

we've got more fun planned over there, so keep checking it out. we'll definitely be getting up to photo fun at blog camp berlin in 10 days.

how to spend a sunday afternoon

the scene: bottom of the garden

the time: late afternoon on a sunday

the characters: me and husband

the bread: fresh from the oven rosemary focaccia

the wine: a crisp, cold south african chenin blanc

the cheese: a soft danish blue

the salt: maldon's, of course

the conversation: obvious from the books - garden plans

the processing: a new vintage, rounded corner, modified (by me) lightroom preset

* * *

NOTE: a single spot on the next blog camp (which begins next friday, july 23) has opened up.
email me (email address is on my profile) if you're feeling spontaneous!
we are having a pretty good summer weather-wise

blog camp 3.0

it's nearly midnight and everything is as ready as it's going to be at blog camp headquarters. the blue room could use a vacuuming over by the wood burning stove (those really make a mess) and the last of the sheets are in the dryer, so they'll be put on beds in the morning, but otherwise, we're ready. and much more relaxed than earlier today, when we were knee-deep in computer problems (the iMac is a hardware issue, that much we now know, and it's gone to the apple hospital) and lists of food preparations. but things have a way of falling into place. the fridge is full of antipasti for tomorrow evening and there's way less pressure when you've already met almost everyone and feel like elizabeth is an old friend, despite the fact that you've never met her.

so i intend to take it all in a very relaxed manner and just really enjoy this last blog camp here on poplar tree street. but never fear, we'll be back up and running again in a new location, wherever it may be,  sometime late summer/early fall.

in the meantime, i'll try to check in with updates over the weekend, as i move ever-closer to that 1000th post.
