ikea is more than just meatballs

i hadn't been to ikea in several months and i went the other day to stock up on the throw pillow cases i use for my etsy pillows. i wandered into the fabric section and fell in love with several fabulous fabrics. ikea has some seriously great fabric designers. in addition to the one that i got to make a bedspread for sabin's new and improved big girl room, i found these beauties as well (please forgive the pictures, our light sucks this time of year):

this makes me think of dr. seuss.

this has a dr. seuss-ish quality as well and i love the colors

birds and cages in cheerful colors. i can think of lots of good things to make with this.

and a seaside scene to remind us of warmer, lighter times.

i've finished sabin's bedspread and made a couple of pillows as well. i "quilted" the fabric to a fleece (also from ikea) and put a binding around it, which i sewed on with the machine to save time. i've decided that what kills me about binding is that hand sewing takes forever.

#86 - bedspread for sabin's bed
the fabric is designed by lotta kühlhorn for ikea.
it's so cool i decided she needed credit.

i know this picture is blurry, but the light is horrible these days and i wasn't patient, nor can i hold still.

also blurry, i realize. again with the lack of light. yet i show you the crap pictures anyway
because i want to count #87.

Can I just say that the more I blog the more I WANT A NIKON. Le sigh. The thing is that I just bought a canon and can't upgrade for years. What WAS I thinking? I mean, it's not a bad camera. It's a good camera. But it doesn't do color the same. I was ignorant. What can I say.

Beautiful fabrics, btw. I miss Ikea.

remember Peter Maxx? Was he from the 70s or 80s? this fabric reminds me of his artwork. I really dig the foxes too.

Ok the pillows lined up to make a continuing picture is to die for. I am in love and want to lie on the bed and read. Move over Sabin.

Ikea was, is, and always will be quirky-cool. Great fabrics. Now I'm feeling the need to make the hour long trip to the nearest store... my son needs 'big guy' curtains.

Hi. I'm not sure if you'llknow this anyway, but I left you a comment on your comment on my blog - it's about Karen Blixen.
Thanks!

Wow -- intense colors to combat gray days! Now do I remember right that the previous trip to Ikea was associated with disaster or trauma, timing problems or such?

Ahh, Ikea. So glad they have one in the new city. At least, I think they have one. They'd better have one!

Ahh, Ikea.

Really nice fabrics. I have a love/hate relationship with IKEA though, I hate it cos its so damn big and I always get a headache every time I go there but I love it cos there are so many things to choose from....plus their cinnamon isn't bad at all.

I love the bedspread and the pillows! Perfect fit with the wall colour. I saw those gorgeous fabrics as well and bought a blue one. Haven't decided what to do with it yet though :-)
Ikea is always good for a surprise (and reasonable priced fabric)! I didn't know they had fleece too...or maybe they don't in Germany, I'll have to go check :-)

I love colours! I hate how the Scandinavians (most of them at least) always wear black and dark colours in the winter. I defy the trends and I wear lots of colours through out the year.;)

IKEA should pay you to use that line in their adveritising. IKEA is more than just meatballs. So true. And yet, I totally love those meatballs.

I've only just been to IKEA once and love it. I'm home in CA this week and am going to take my mom. I can't wait to get my hands on some great yardage for Christmas gifts! Love what you did to Sabin's room!
