first world worries

i do realize that i begin to seem a little obsessed about this, but seriously...

i.
cannot.
take.
a.
poetic.
shot.
of.
an.
almost-empty.
plate.

not to save my life.

this, it looks like a big fat mess that needs to be scraped into the chicken bucket (tho' i do love our plates and silverware).  and yet, flickr abounds with people who master this particular genre. i'm just clearly not one of them.

i'm not even sure why it bothers me as much as it seems to.

and it is a lame thing to worry about. i realize.

i'll try to stop now. i promise.

when I was in art school, we had a photo assignment ... to shoot an ugly landscape. It's surprising how 'good' an ugly thing or place can look if formatting-lighting-angle-etc. all balance out.

I betcha you will look at that finished plate with fresh eyes and see a half-dozen solutions for the image.

the angle is wrong. focus is wrong. knife & fork placed wrong. light is kind of ok and i like the color, moody darkness of it. but poetic it is not...

don't worry - if this is the only thing you can't do you should be happy!

Isn't it strangely easy to make even the tastiest food look gross in photos?!

It's the things we're not so good at that we constantly feel the need to complain about. Let it go...you're great at other things, other shots, other poetic moments that far surpass these.

Give me a full plate any day.

Well, I'm not an art critic, but I kinda like it. Especially the color.

Hello Julie

I think you did a great job! I love the red plate--where did you buy them?

Best
Tracy :)

I actually love this image, there is something so artistic about it - and it is a testimony of a terrific meal as well.;))
