the pleasures of typing

i read tom hanks' delightful ode to the typewriter from yesterday's nytimes. who knew he could write like that? what a multi-talented man. but i digress. already and i'm only three sentences in. *sigh* immediately after reading it, i rushed to my little antique erika typewriter, removed the poem by head doctor morgen schiebel of viborg hospital that came in it and made myself a funny little list.

i can only say that tom is so completely right. the pleasures of the sound and the feel of the keys and seeing the letters appear on the paper cannot be underestimated. i'm going to start every morning this week with a little old-fashioned typing. i'm not going to wax on and on about it, as tom expressed it all so beautifully. i'm definitely going to be needing more vintage typewriters.

I luv my Apple wireless keyboard and I'm so out-of-pen shape ... I can barely write a bank check!

Let's see ... other backward tech ... pencil? Chalk? Semaphores? Cuneiform sticks?

So cool. One day I decided to write all the seven letters to my good mail friends on my vintage type writer. OUCH, how did those secretaries ever do that all day?
