concentration stone

i've been holding this stone in my hand or in my lap for two days straight. i even fell asleep with it in my hand last night. it helps me concentrate. it's become a bit of a talisman for me. and i swear it has helped. i found it on that beach in norway two weeks ago. and i'm closing in on being done (with my work).

when i look at this picture, i see my mom's hand...

...tho' it is my own hand. but when i think of all her hands have done, i think i'm ok with that.

Oh thats beautiful. I love stones, I was an avid stone collector as a child, and still happen to pick stones on my trips till today.

It's nice, a rock in the hand. Comforting, cool, tangible.

I love this story.
Clearly you have a deep connection to Mother Earth and look to her as a source of strength when you need it, which makes the mention of your own Mom very interesting.

Thank you for staying in touch with us, even in the middle of a professional tornado.

I have a worry stone around here somewhere - there is a groove in it perfect for your thumb to rub... you are right - it works.

I love what you said about your / your mom's hands... I have a picture of my granma's grandma and I wonder how her hands ended up on my arms...

For some reason I have my father's hands - the long fingers and stretch. I long for my mother's hands, even as they began to bend with old age. A beautiful thought.

Stones have such a calming effect for me. As if any troubles on my mind are being pulled into the stone and away from me.

I had just such a stone around when I was pregnant. It fit perfectly into my hand and I used to just hold it, randomly. It made me feel good.
We started joking, and then got serious, that it would have to come with me to the labour ward. But when my waters broke unexpectedly and we rushed off to hospital it got forgotten, and I had to have a Caeser anyway.
I found it the other day and had a little cry :|
Stones can be special I guess.

I guess this kind of thing is how we connect with nature and what grounds us.
PS. Glad your words are finding their way back... although I like your photos too¡

I like the feel of sand in between my fingers, it just relaxes me like nothing can... huh
I love what you said about your mother's hand, we have a great poem in Armenian on all the things that mother's hands do, it's so beautiful, I wish I could translate it one day. Actually my post today is about a friends mother, if you have the time swing by my blog and read it, it's a heart warming story.

I am a "rock person." Love them, any shape or size. I've told my husband, don't send me flowers. Go out and find a unique rock in the countryside. Anyway, heartfelt words. I do think it is sort of like a mantra, holding onto something. Making yourself aware of that something in your hand. Centers you like yoga.

I live in a place that is full of rocks and stones. It often feels as if I grow them, Therefore I am always finding interesting stones, which I pick up and keep. I don't fall asleep with them, but I keep them.

I began to look at rocks and stones differently when I went to Jeweler's school last year....and I really listen when one speaks to me. Obviously, you and your rock connected. The more you hold it, the more the energy charges it.

Beautiful photos.

I think we should start a club and print up t-shirts and everything: "I'm a rock fan!" but seriously, i love this. and it reminded me that i have a jacket that i haven't worn in years, but used to wear it every time we went out to the desert for a bonfire or to camp. I had a rock in each pocket, because i would warm them by the fire and then hold them in my hands to keep my hands warm. I'll have to go find that jacket and see if they're still there. :) i wouldn't be a bit surprised!

I see the stone is a perfect fit! It was meant for your hand. Over here we call stones like this worry stones. They can help to ease anxiety by repetitively "worrying" or rubbing the stone.
