blog camp anyone?

the scene for blog camp

this morning, i was catching up on my blog reading (i didn't get done yet, so if you're missing me, don't worry, i'll be by soon) at the table instead of reading the newspaper (which is over-hyping the one solitary case of H1N1 in denmark anyway). i was reading funny snippets of some of my favorite blogs out loud to husband (who is a bit mystified by the entire blog thing and often advises me to find friends in my local space rather than in cyberspace). i had just read something funny and i sighed, "i want to hang out with these people in real life." husband said, "why don't you have a blog camp, they could come and hang out with you in your writing house." (writing house is the original name for my garden studio/atelier/place of creativity.)

and so i began to imagine what blog camp would look like...

: : nobody would get dressed all day if they didn't want to, they could hang out in their pajamas.

: : we would probably all sit in the same room on our laptops IMing each other.

: : we would drink copious amounts of wine.

: : we would cook and eat the fabulous food we made.

: : we would stay up late.

: : we would drink lots of pots of tea and many lattes.

: : we would figure out how to make those hearts in the latte foam by practicing lots and lots of times.

: : in the unlikely event we got dressed, we would go on photo walks. or maybe if we were all in our PJs, we could go on photo walks anyway...and end up being known as the pajama gang. or the pajama mafia. i've always wanted to be part of a gang.

: : we would laugh a whole lot.

: : hopefully someone would teach me to crochet and/or knit.

: : and we just might make plausible plans for taking over the world.

: : oh, and OF COURSE, we would blog the whole thing (thanks hit 40)!

doesn't that sound good?

what would you wanna do at blog camp?

So funny! We would need to have someone in charge of blogging the event! Oh.. and I am sure someone could twitter it!!!

I love your writing room. I ASSume the pic is of this room? It looks like you painted the cabinet, desk, and ceiling all the same shade of blue? Looks great!

I have looked at painted/ wallpapered ceilings.... just haven't tried it yet.

Sounds like a plan to me! Sounds like Fantasy Island! Are you going to set a date?

I'm in. I sleep naked though and don't actually own any pajamas, but am willing to hang out in my bathrobe so as not to offend anyone? I still want to be in the gang though. Should I go out and get pajamas in preparation for this?
Thoughts?

Im in, can I bring some tea? Love the camp, I want to go! I need a break, but want to kepp up to date with blogging, so this is perfect for me!

hit 40--edited accordingly. how could i FORGET TO WRITE THAT?

dutchbaby--i just might schedule something, tho' this started as a joke, so stay tuned.

extranjera--bathrobe totally ok, tho' maybe for the photo walks more pajama-like attire would be warranted. especially if we wandered around in copenhagen. do you have sweatpants? they would work too.

clairedulaluna--you are most welcome to bring tea. we're a bit tea snobs around our house (husband is the worst), so loose leaf only, no bags. :-)

oh oh oh (jumping up and down) I am SO in. We could have art trades and teach each other fun stuff like crochet stone covers and swearing in a foreign language! I'll barter aromatic backrubs for art, books or lessons in photography!

How wonderful. I'd love to come.

Denmark probably needs more crazy Australians!

Very clever! There would be so many cameras the clicking sound would be deafening. And certain people would either be chasing after all the neighborhood pets or buzzing for flowers while others would be whipping out their poetry books and dramatizing to all.

I'm not sure pajamas are for everyone - after all there are plenty of fashionistas just so ready to strut the latest looks. And I won't even start on all the various shoes that will need to be seen.

And if the political ones show up, heaven help everyone if liberals accidently sit next to conservatives.

And you better have plenty of work space and proper lighting for the watercolorists, painters and dodad makers.

Me, I'll probably leave the room when there's a rush to show a gazillion albums filled with snapshots of cute beautiful wonderful bright just lovely perfect children.

I wanna be at blog camp!! I want to cook and sew and photograph and laugh and love and giggle and wear my pjs all day. I want to braid hair, listen to yummy music and dance with wild abandon. Then I want hug all of you.

Char said...

even if we couldn't physically do it - we should pick a day and declare it a blog camp day. we could all stay in our pj's all day and blog our activities together.

One time at blog camp....

I think it's a fabulous idea.

Where do I sign up? Can I bring my snuggie? I'm always cold and it keeps me so warm while I'm on my computer. Also - I think we should have a masseuse come out a few times a week. I like to take a break from blogging and drinking wine to get a massage every once in a while.

I definitely want to go to blog camp!

What a terrific idea! But your place is a bit far from where I live. So why don't we make it once in three years in different venues? :) Just an unsolicited idea. :)

I never got to/wanted to go to camp when I was little - I am ready to go to camp now!

I love that you say we would have to IM each other - I often wonder if the more I blog the less I remember how to interact face to face ;)

I fear the photo shudder sound WOULD be defending - only drowned out by all the giggles.

One would have to watch out for all the hot glue guns, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and sewing needles - really it could get quite dangerous!

We would have to make the deal - What happens at blog camp stays at blog camp! Is Denmark really ready for us?

We've not yet met, but I'm thoroughly enjoying perusing your blog and would love to come to blog camp. Any gathering in a room of such delicious color has got to be great!

What a great idea!!!
I'd love to be in my pj's cooking and drinking wine with all my blog friends. I can think of nothing better.
And to learn to knit would be amazing! Then we could form one of those guerilla knitta gangs and decorate (tag!) everything with random acts of knitting.

Ah to be in that camp right now....lovely blue room up there btw.
oxxoxo

OH! OH! OH! I'm totally in. In fact, I am in my PJ's now, reading blogs and twitters, IM'ing and drinking a bucket of coffee. And I TOTALLY want to be in the pj mafia (awesome term)

ohh I love ur idea of a blog camp....... and i love to read ur blogs... never told ya so before.... :)

what an awesome idea! totally agree on the staying in pjs all day bit. also, seeing that there is so much creative talent among us, i suggest there be opportunities to teach each other the craft each excels in (such as photography, painting, etc).

also, maybe we should take it in turns to host. we may be able to find a small uninhabited island in the middle of the indian ocean to host all blog campers :)

I am SOOOO in...in your honor, I made a list last night and one of my 'things to do' was to go to Ireland....but, I've changed my mind, Blog camp in Denmark is the destination. Ooooh, I cannot imagine how much "zoning" there would be - we'd all knock each other over with our power and love and creativity. Fabulous, I cannot wait. When?

beth said...

count me in !!!
honestly, it sounds like a little piece of heaven...and we all need that while we're alive !!!

Sounds like a great idea, Julie, for those on that side of the world (might be easier for them to get to you). Hanging out in pj's all day, I see to be heading in that direction right now. Tea, lots of tea sounds good (maybe I'll pass on the wine, though, can't stand hangovers -- I think I just can't drink very well). As long as there's a restroom nearby, so I don't piss my pants from all the belly laughing.

I'm not sure Denmark is ready for all of us.

But seriously I'd love to learn to knit and hang out with all of you.

ooh, i wanna come! ever since i first found your blog i've been saying i need a studio space instead of just a desk (and i've said it enough to get the spare room put aside in the new house. thank you for that inspiration!)
if there were enough of us wandering around then I'm sure we could pull off pajamas in copenhagen. with that many of us we would be thought crazy tourists ANYWAY...

iasa - "one time at blog camp..." hahaha! i really want to be able to say that!

how awesome does all of this sound?

Polly said...

Let me know when you open the blog camp because I'm in!! And I looove the fact that it's blue, that blue room is gorgeous.

After copious amounts of wine we should put the laptops down and do some real time talking...

I hope my new converse will go with the pjs...

I'm off to practice the hearts on a latte...

kristina said...

yes yes! the best idea I've heard of in a long time!
can I bring Vigdis? ;-)

(it would be cool to have an online blog camp with chats and stuff - something to set up when someone has a lot of time to spare...)

I have only been following your blog for about a week (but to be fair I have only been blogging for about a week). Anyway, if its not too cheeky, can you please count me in?
And if anyone can teach me to knit I would be so seriously impressed...I need no help on the wine drinking/cooking and eating great food/making 2am plans to take over the world front.

Blog camp sounds like awesomeness on a schtick. Blogging with good people, maybe read a good book or two, board games, get some writing done while music plays in the background. Sounds like a cool day, not to mention pirates in PJ's!

My husband isn't understanding my whines of "I wanna go to blogger camp!" I would start making my travel plans today, but I really liked the idea of a cyber-camp, at least for a test run. Am totally jealous that you have a writing house. (Husband really starting to get annoyed with my whining and pleas! "You want what kind of house?") Looking at the view from your desk, I think you would really enjoy reading "The Vagabond's House" by Don Blanding (nicely posted here: http://www.vianet.net.au/~croft/vagabond/vagabond.html).

So much truth and so little time!

I need a holiday, so I hope you have room for all of us. My hubby, and I think many out there tell us all to get a grip...but its great to look into each others lives around the world...

I would show all of you how to make one of my favourite organic and edible moisturizing creams and we all would decorate our faces with a thick layer of it... (imagine husband's associations with all those white faced ladies....) Cheers from Ireland Eliane

I love it! What a great idea! I'm sure we would all take thousands of pics and possibly do a bit of vlogging as well. There would be so many stories told and then it would be a blast to see how others described the same thing you were experiencing only in completely different words. Blog Camp! Sweet!

Food bloggers would do the cooking. Photo bloggers would take the pictures. Wordsmiths would write. We would have to combine the whole thing into one huge blog. I would just come along for the ride. Meeting some of the people who write the things I like would be a cool experience in itself. :)

Amanda said...

I am so there...do you suppose there might be a grant available for me to write for? I need some cash to participate.

I can teach all of you how to knit...not crochet, though. I need to learn more about my camera. This is all for me.

Any of you big travellers have some extra miles you'd like to donate?

I'm desperate!

I would want to sit in my pjs and my fluffy slippers (an impulse buy that Im dying to try...its too hot where I am from to put on fluffy slippers...)...drink copious amounts of coffee and come up with names for all those small things(like the plastic bits at the end of shoe laces)...in short do all that I don't ordinarily have the time for...

This post is in retrospect legendary. You had already 3 blogcamps since, there was one in the UK and one in Reno. All in such a short time. It definitely a milestone in your blogging career.
