what i've been up to this weekend

much progress has been made inside the house this weekend. we sanded and oiled the new oak floors. yes, we did this previously in the kitchen, but now that the floor is laid in the addition as well, the boys decided to sand and treat it all again.
i think the way they joined the old house and the addition is just beautiful!
a single moment to rest and photograph after the first batch of oil treatment.
the entire addition floor after being treated with oil.
we wiped it all down by hand.
that was not easy.
i hung 14 colorful tealight holders in the greenhouse.
they were magical when it got dark.
why is the greenhouse, which has been made of all the odds and ends from the rest of the project, our very favorite place to be?
i made four trips to ikea (3 on friday, 1 today)
one of the results was these new karlstad chairs in an orange & red pattern that's perfect in the kitchen.
i can scarcely believe it, but when i just looked up that link to the chairs, i found out that they are actually about $50 CHEAPER in denmark! it must be the ONLY thing in the world that's cheaper here.
although the windowsills are all still full of painting and sanding supplies,
it starts to looks like people live here!
note my fabulous skinny la minx eep towel on the stove!
ignore the box-laden hallway and the stairs that need painting.
it's starting to be a home again!!
but we have a busy couple of weeks ahead, closing in on the big party on aug. 30!

I laughed at the feet in the second picture- surely a moment of relaxation, well earned.
And I absolutely love the chairs. I can't say it enough- those colours are amazing. Like the brightest autumn splashes.

Oh my, I am so loving your kitchen.
And your greenhouse!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

For a while, I was starting to wonder if it would have been easier for you to just buy a new house rather than do all that work, but now as I see it all coming together....I want your house.
I want it.

YOU DID ALL THIS IN A WEEKEND?!!! Even if it took you a year, it looks awesome! I love all of the touches, all of the little red elements (love the drawer pulls) and THOSE CHAIRS!!

Love love love them. I'm sorry to yell but I think your place looks swell. Congratulations! I am sure you are exhausted.

(now I feel like such a slacker. I haven't even made my bed or gone to the grocery store yet. It's after 2pm.)

Oh my god, it is beautiful. So warm and friendly. I love the oranges and reds. When I was in the US I bought bright orange towels and lime green towels. They look awesome together. Can't buy those brillant colors in Canada. Not yet anyways. I bet all the construction was worth it. I am just envious!!!

Ikea should use your home in their catalogue. So very scandanavian.

Just beautiful, bright, cheerful, well laid out ... what more can I say, just lovely. Barb

thank you all for your very kind comments. i'll continue to post as we frantically try to finish before the party on the 30th!

jaime--i too thought for awhile that we should get a new house, but it is coming together!

so it's really a shame that we'll probably sell it and move to norway. or perhaps singapore.

stay tuned!

Stunning! Stunning! Stunning! I don't even know what is my favorite thing about it...although my heart is leaning towards that gorgeous red fridge. :) I would love to sit down and have a meal there...I hope you get to enjoy it...at least for a little while before you move.
